AIRCRAFT ARRESTING SYSTEMS PROTECT AIRCRAFT AND SAVE LIVES
Established in 2005, ATECH began as a supplier to the U.S. Department of Defense. Today, ATECH provides complete Aircraft Arresting Systems, Spare Parts, and Retrofit Kits world-wide for the U.S. Department of Defense and International Air Forces.
Runways equipped with arresting systems are prepared to safely stop fighter aircraft in case of troubled landing or aborted take-off. When an arresting system is deployed, the objective is to catch the aircraft, absorb the energy, and bring the aircraft to a safe and controlled stop. Energy absorbing systems, such as the BAK-12, are installed on each side of the runway and are connected to either a pendant cable, which is engaged by the aircraft tail hook, or a net barrier system, which catches the entire airframe.
ATECH’s BAK-14U retractable hook cable systems enable the pendant cable to be lowered below the runway surface. This prevents damage to the pendant cable, the runway surface below the pendant cable and taxiing aircraft.
Net barrier systems are installed in the overrun area of the runway. These arresting barriers such as the ATECH’s BAK-15 arresting barrier are installed as primary emergency recovery of fighter aircraft without a tail hook or as back-up systems for hook-equipped aircraft.
Retractable Hook Cable System
ATECH’s BAK-14U hydraulic retractable hook cable system is designed for permanent installation at runways jointly used by military and civil aircraft. The system allows the user to raise or lower the pendant cable remotely from Air Traffic Control, wither via fiber cable or radio, or directly at site. The modern control and hydraulic system allows for detailed health monitoring of each mechanism and reliable position signal.
Net Barrier Arresting System
The Net Barrier System is designed to absorb the forward momentum of aircraft during the event of aborted takeoff or emergency landing. It is comprised of a net webbing assembly, stanchions, anchoring system and paired with an energy absorber, such as the BAK-12 or BAK-13E. A net barrier system is either a primary arresting system for fighter aircraft without a tail hook or a secondary system for hook equipped fighters. The net barrier systems are commonly located at runway overruns.
