AIRCRAFT ARRESTING SYSTEMS PROTECT AIRCRAFT AND SAVE LIVES
Since being established in 2005, ATECH has been a manufacturer of assemblies and parts for the U.S. Department of Defense. Since then we’ve proven to be a reliable, high-quality supplier of both system parts and complete installations of arresting systems.
Runways are equipped with arrestors to safely stop fighter aircraft in case of emergency due to an aborted take-off or a troubled landing. The task is to catch the fighter and then bring it to a safe stop. This is achieved by installing energy absorbers, also known as brakes, such as the BAK-12 on both sides of the runway shoulders with a hook cable or a net barrier connecting the two energy absorbers.
ATECH’s BAK-14 retractable hook cable system is deployed below the runway surface to prevent damage to the cable, taxiing aircraft and the runway surface during normal runway operations.
Net barrier systems are installed in the overrun area of the runway. These arresting barriers such as the ATECH’s BAK-15 arresting barrier are installed as primary emergency recovery of fighter aircraft without a tail hook or as redundancy systems for hook-equipped aircraft.
Retractable Hook Cable System
ATECH’s BAK-14U hydraulic retractable hook cable system is deployed below the runway surface to prevent damage to the cable, taxiing aircraft and the runway surface during normal runway operations. A retractable hook cable is designed for permanent installation at runways jointly used for by military and civil aircraft. In the lowered position the surface is clear and the BAK-14U offers no interference to the operation of lightweight civil or military aircraft.
Net Barrier Arresting System
The Net Barrier System is designed to absorb the forward momentum of aircraft during the event of aborted takeoff or emergency landing. It is comprised of a net webbing assembly, stanchions, anchoring system and paired with an energy absorber, such as the BAK-12 or BAK-13E. A net barrier system is either a primary arresting system for fighter aircraft without a tail hook or a secondary system for hook equipped fighters. The net barrier systems are commonly located at runway overruns.
